Scarab beetles are my favourite beetles of all time! Many species are huge, possessing unique spines and horns of various sizes and shapes. For Canadian Thanksgiving, I managed to get my hands on a bin full of scarab beetles, rhinoceros beetles to be exact (Xylotrupes gideon philippinensis), to feed to my ant colonies. The massive scarab beetle grubs were monstrous and meaty creatures, with powerful mandibles and hairy bodies. The larvae eat decaying wood and plant matter, and grow to become absolutely massive beetles. When it came time to feed the grubs to my ant colonies, however, something happened that changed the entire plan and fate of the young beetles. Hope you enjoy this week's video! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

When I heard you were getting beetles, my heart fluttered. I love beetles, they're one of my favourite animals on earth, especially scarabs! And, I really love their larvae...I do truly find them cute, helpless little...wiggly guys. As soon as you announced you were using them to feed the ants, my heart sank. And I felt worse and worse as the inevitable became clearer. By the time you had the had the grub in place to kill, I legit felt myself getting upset. (I guess that's just how much I adore beetles, lol)
Once you had the scissors in position and started to count down, I felt like I was actually going to cry. Whyyy? Why the wiggly baby?!
I'm so happy that you chose to keep these grubs, AntsCanada. I feel like if you had used them as food, you would have missed out on the amazing experience of Beetle keeping.
They're sociable and interesting animals, and I'm beyond ecstatic that a favourite entomology channel of mine is going to have beetles!!
I’ve seen one scareb beetle uhh my cousins place had a few and they looked cool and I’ve grown a darkling beetle it sadly died we buried it next to my house and it was cool seeing it grow it grew from a baby to an adult and I loved it Rest In Peace stripes that was his name stripes he had the best life I could give him
I wish I could be as passionate as you are about ants about...anything. It is incredibly fascinating to listen to you discuss your collection and thought process for how you go about things. Your editing and production are incredible, and you offered a full piece of content without making me click on another video to see 'how it turned out'. Keep up the great work, look at these comments...we all love it.
I like to feed them their food alive in order for them to always remember how to hunt there prey.In fact I am not imortal so one day someone or me will set them free.If that happen they dont have a problem of killing their prey...
+just nope Yeah!
I dont actually enjoy watching it.I dont watch them eat that are still alive, I go outside Most of the time.Sometimes I change my mind because sometimes my head tells me.What if Im in that situation.
I only do it Once a month.😇
