‘Happiness is heritable’: Professor Meike Bartels on the happiness gene

03:42
Do we have a happiness gene? As part of the World Government Summit in Dubai, Professor Meike Bartels of VU University Amsterdam explains her research on how to find – and increase – happiness Bartels is the author of a groundbreaking genetic study in the Netherlands, which found three genetic variants for the ‘happiness gene.’ Comparing identical twins to fraternal twins, those genetically identical to those that do not share all their genes, Professor Bartels found that differences between people are 40 per cent accounted for by genetic differences, and that individuals who are similar in their feelings of happiness, also have similar DNA. A 300,000 person study found the first genetic variance, so ‘we really know now where on the human genome that are variances that are related to difference in human happiness’, she says.

It's all in the mind my friend ;) You may not even believe it's possible in the beginning, but it will still work, and your belief will grow in time allowing it to work even faster! We all deserve happiness! I didn't even know there was a contest going. Whoever had the best percentage of picks right during a 2 month span, won the contest. Guys were stressing out as the last fight card came out, because they could see who the leaders were and how close it was. Is The Secret To A Happy Marriage In Your DNA?

04:46
Are some people genetically predisposed to stay happily married? Researchers at UC Berkeley have found a major clue in our DNA. Subscribe! http://bit.ly/1fUWHyY How Power Makes People Selfish: https://youtu.be/0vvl46PmCfE Robert Levenson and his team have found a link between relationship fulfillment and a variation of the serotonin transporter gene — referred to as the “short allele.” The gene is involved in the regulation of serotonin in the brain and can predict whether a person is oblivious or sensitive to the emotional climate of their relationship. The researchers have been following a group of 156 middle-aged and older couples since 1989. Every five years, the couples have come to UC Berkeley to report on their marital satisfaction and interact with one another in a lab setting while researchers code their conversations based on facial expressions, body language, tone of voice and topic of discussion. FEATURING: Robert Levenson, Professor of Psychology, UC Berkeley The research highlighted in this video has been supported in part by the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Mental Health. Migrants and the pursuit of happiness - Via Genoa

43:07
For many migrants Italy was never their ultimate goal. In the third and final episode of Via Genua, we meet Driss, a Tunisian who wants to travel northwards hoping to find a country where he gets a fair chance. Driss left Tunisia with a friend on his fishing boat because the girl he loved and wanted to marry cancelled their wedding: her father had found a richer husband for her. Driss wore his wedding suit when he left: he wanted to make a beautiful entrance in Europe. It is a crisis in Italy. Everyone feels that, Italian and non-Italian. Ilja learns from people in Via di Prè who came to live a long time ago in this economically dead city. What are you going to do? Should you stay, or should you leave? Meanwhile, new refugees arrive in Genoa, and their families back in Africa are full of high expectations for them. Are they going to make it? In this VPRO travel series Via Genoa, writer Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer speaks with the colorful inhabitants of his hometown, the Italian port city of Genoa. Pfeiffer shows how Italy changes politically, socially and economically with all the newcomers. Should you be able to patent a human gene? | Tania Simoncelli

18:06
Are human genes patentable? Back in 2005, when Tania Simoncelli first contemplated this complex question, US patent law said they were — which meant patent holders had the right to stop anyone from sequencing, testing or even looking at a patented gene. Troubled by the way this law both harmed patients and created a barrier to biomedical innovation, Simoncelli and her colleagues at the ACLU challenged it. In this riveting talk, hear the story of how they took a case everybody told them they would lose all the way to the Supreme Court. A new study has found that the same genes that make us prone to depression could also make us prone to positivity. Bring Health and Happiness Into Your Life Through the Biology of Beliefs

08:30
Bruce Lipton has created an online course based on his research and teaching since 1968 on epigenetics. This revolutionary branch of science consists of studying the nature of cells and how they respond to the environment. In this video, Bruce explains how his research starting in the 1960s found cells weren’t controlled by genes but instead by the environment in which they live. And further how this discovery has given us the opportunity to change our biology by altering the way we live in the world and perceive our lives. It also reveals we are not victims of our heredity and by taking control of your beliefs you become a master of your genes. Through his online video course he brings an understanding of the scientific nature of spirituality by elaborating on the chemistry, physics and genetics of how your biology is impacted through your thoughts in easy-to-understand language. You are more powerful than you know and in his online course he brings forward scientific facts to show you how to achieve health and happiness by changing your beliefs. A course for even the most skeptical and fact-driven among us, click here to learn how to take back power over your health through Bruce Lipton’s Biology of Belief online course http://www.learn.hayhouseu.com/biologyofbelief-course-us

Here, he reflects on the meaning of life and what’s gotten him to 92. Ed Mosberg: There’s only one thing. You should stick with your family and with your friends. This is the most important thing in your life, when you stick with your family and with your friends. And like I always say to my wife, we are one life and we are here together. I do every day, making push-ups, sit-ups, hydraulic steps, I run on a treadmill, because I have to be fit for my wife. Anytime she need me, that I am there for my wife. This is my primary thing. Like this morning, I got up, I was 5 o’clock up this morning and I was on a treadmill. I make all the other exercise. It’s not a secret. Just be active. Not to overeat, okay? Because this is the worst thing. People are overeating. They say, “Well, I’m hungry.” You can control it. I tell you what I had this morning. This morning I had a glass of water, cup of coffee with plenty sugar and half a small yogurt. Yogurt, the small one, I take a half. And that’s all. And if I don't have a lunch, I can go like this ‘til the evening so long I have a cup of coffee. I don’t want you tell my daughter what I eat. This is not a secret to live to 92 and I tell you now, I already decided, I have a party when I will be 100. I have the date already. -------------------------------------------------- Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs Follow BI on Facebook: http://bit.ly/1W9Lk0n Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/ -------------------------------------------------- Business Insider is the fastest growing business news site in the US. Do you want to know the one word secret to happiness?

04:18
Do you want to know the secret to happiness? I can answer this question with just one word. It’s not going to make sense at first, but just hear me out and I promise it will be the best answer you receive today. You ready? The answer is…. Progress.. Confused?? It’s ok, either I didn’t understand this at first ! Think about it for a minute though and it all starts to click. Have you ever heard the story of the lotto winner who went from being flat broke to collecting millions of dollars, only to be severely depressed a few years later? Of course, you have! It's so popular they even made a reality tv series about it. Why do you think that occurrence is so common? The answer is progress. Or in their case, lack of progress. They simply peaked. They became millionaires and had nothing left to achieve. No reason to get up in the morning. No more goals to fulfill. No more purpose. They went from a life were progress was essential to live to a life with nothing to live for. Do you see the difference? Think about your own life for a minute. Ever have those lazy sunday’s when you get up, sit on the couch all day, and do nothing? How do you feel after that day? Now compare that to a day when you worked really hard on a project or successfully finished all of your goals for the day. How did you feel then? So why does progress make us happy? It all boils down to evolution. Whether we like it or not, we as humans are all hard-wired to evolve every day of our life. Evolution is essential to our survival. That evolution can take shape in many forms, but at the end of the day, that’s what progress really is, the evolution of ourselves. And when you are evolving, you are consciously taking control of your life and telling the universe “hold my beer, I got this!” Still not buying it? Go ahead and try me…. You might say, well family makes me happy! Of course, it does, but why is that? It’s because family is simply the evolution of your genes. It’s progress in the form of continuing your bloodline on for future generations. Some might say, I don’t care what you say, money does make me happy. Does the actual money make you happy? Or does the pursuit of the money make you happy? I would argue the latter. And why is that true? Because the pursuit of money is, you guessed it, progress. Hmmmmm….. I hope answer has made the point a bit clearer. The important take away here is that if you want to be happy, always look for ways to progress. Keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other. It does not matter how big or small of a progression you make, as long as it is in the right direction. ------------------------------------------------------------- background music: https://www.zapsplat.com/ background images: https://www.freepik.com/ Vector: https://www.freepik.com/ Sounds: https://www.zapsplat.com/ thumbnail image: https://www.freepik.com/ Everything else is royalty-free, commercially usable and resources that are no attribution is required. -------------------------------------------------------------

Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness Audiobook | Joel Ben Izzy

03:12
Get this audiobook title in full for free: http://dpar.us/h/50462 Narrated by Joel Ben Izzy Duration 4 hours 37 minutes Once upon a time, a successful storyteller lost his voice to throat cancer. Deprived of the instrument of his art and his livelihood, he retreated into dark, sullen silence and depression. While searching for a spiritual explanation, he encountered his former mentor, a cantankerous and often drunk old man. Their meetings began a journey into the timeless wisdom of ancient tales: of beggars and kings, monks and tigers, lost horses, buried treasures, and ultimately the secret of happiness. In this altogether original book, Joel ben Izzy shares his personal account of surviving loss, gaining wisdom, and rediscovering one's true purpose. Weaving in tales he's collected over the years from Sufi, Muslim, Chinese, Jewish, Iraqi, Zen Buddhist, Italian, and Indian cultures, he passes along the lessons he has learned. As we travel with ben Izzy from tragedy back into light and sound, we are encouraged to see our own lives as stories, and to open our own hearts to happiness.
