Cancer in Africa

03:09
This is What we do. The rate of late presentation of Cancer symptoms in Africa is very high. Most countries in Africa do not have the facilities to care for Cancer patients. People who live in Africa cannot afford the cost of Cancer treatment. Our key task in since 2009, is simply to educate the local people on how to self-examine themselves and to be able to identify the early Signs and Symptoms of Prostate, Cervical and Breast cancer. It is your donations and the kind support of volunteers that enables us to provide these free services. Since the beginning of our educative trips to Africa, we have examined over 6000 people. With these challenges, we have to increase the number of our community health workers to help reach more people. We are happy with the small progress we are making, but we know that there is a lot more that needs to be done. Give a donation now to help us train more local health workers Thank you giving, Ronnie Jacobs. Ep 13 - How to Examine your Breast for Signs & Symptoms of Breasts Cancer.

03:53
There’s no right or wrong way to check your breasts. (This video was shot in rural Busia County, Kenya. During our Breast Cancer Awareness trip across six communities). It’s important to know how your breasts normally look and feel. That way, you can spot any changes quickly and report them to your GP. A lump could be an early sign of breast cancer. Be Breast Aware Every woman's breasts are different. Many women have one breast bigger than the other. Get used to how your breasts feel at different times of the month. This can change during your menstrual cycle. For example, some women have tender and lumpy breasts around the time of their period. After the menopause, normal breasts feel soft, less firm and not lumpy. The five-point plan for being breast aware: - Know what’s normal for you - Look at your breasts and feel them - Know what changes to look for - Report any changes without delay - Attend routine screening if you’re 50 or ove. Look at your breasts and feel each breast and armpit. You may find it easiest to do this in the shower or bath, by running a soapy hand over each breast and up under each armpit. You can look at your breasts in the mirror. Moving your arms around will allow you to see your breasts from every angle. Breast changes to look out for: See your GP if you notice any of the following changes: - A change in the size, outline or shape of your breast, especially when you move your arm or lift your breast. - A change in the look or feel of your skin, such as puckering or dimpling. - Any discomfort or pain in one breast, particularly if it’s a new pain and doesn’t go away. - A new lump, thickening or bumpy area in one breast or armpit that is different from the same area on the other side. - Nipple discharge that's not milky. - Bleeding from your nipple. - A moist, red area on your nipple that doesn’t heal easily - A any change in nipple position, such as your nipple being pulled in or pointing differently. - A rash on or around your nipple. Always see your GP Breast changes can happen for many reasons, and most of them aren’t serious. Many women have breast lumps, and nine out of 10 are not cancerous. However, if you find changes in your breast that aren’t normal for you, it’s best to see your GP as soon as possible. This is because the sooner breast cancer is diagnosed, the better the chance of successful treatment. Cancel Cancer Africa (CCA) welcomes volunteers for their Breast Cancer awareness trips to rural Africa in 2015. We are planning to visit some rural communities in Limpopo South Africa (4th-13th March) or Busia County, Kenya (13th– 22nd August). http://www.cancelcancerafrica.org/index.html

Ep 1 - What Cancel Cancer Africa is About

10:15
What is Cancel Cancer Africa About? As I am sure you are aware, the Cancer burden in Africa is a very complicated issue. Many people present to the hospital with late stage disease, due to the lack of awareness about symptoms together with cultural and superstitious misconceptions. The idea of the "Cancel Cancer Africa" program organised by Good 4 Africa UK is to improve the knowledge of what signs and symptoms to look out for and to encourage women go to see a doctor if any of these occur. Being able to afford treatment is another huge challenge in Africa, so we work in partnership with the local health authorities to develop ways to fund treatments for any women that we find who needs further investigations or treatment. Our objective is to reduce the rate of mortality and morbidity caused by Cancer in Africa. Our strategy is based on three key methods. 1, Awareness: We are determined to raise the level of Breast Cancer awareness in Africa. We will continue to carry out challenging activities. 2, Responsibility: We believe that raising the level of awareness will develop a sense of responsibility within the governments in Africa. We will continue to overcome the challenges in collaboration with the local governments. 3, Action: We believe that progressive actions are inevitable with a sense of accountability. Our passion is to encourage steps to permanent solutions. Follow us on Twitter #cancelcancerafrica

Phase Two of the Community Health Centre

20:20
The completion of phase 2 of the Community Health Project in rural Africa. www.cancelcancerafrica.org Cancel Cancer Africa is a UK registered charity working to reduce the rate of Mortality and Morbidity caused by Cancer in rural Africa. Our charity currently operates within two rural African countries, Kenya and Nigeria. We operate in Africa through our registered charity Lift Above Cancer NGO in Nigeria and in Busia, Kenya. We welcome Medical and Non-Medical volunteers from all over the world. We employ full time registered Nurses and community health workers, who work door to door visiting the rural communities educating the people about the early Signs and Symptoms of Cancer, as well as attend to the local people who walk into our free Centre. Since 2014, we have visited Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. In 2017, we made a strategic decision to focus on two African countries, Kenya and Nigeria over the next five years. We laid out our long-term vision, to setup a free Health Centre in rural Nigeria and Kenya, which will set as a model for future centres across rural Africa. We laid the first brick towards this centre in Nigeria in March 2017 and propose to finish the structure before 2020. Part of our five-year plan is to offer free general medical checks up and free medications for common diagnosis in the community we operate and operate a Community Health radio to build the capacity of the local people. This method has made the local people to respond more positively to our Cancer message. We welcome organisations, governments and concerned individuals to collaborate with us to help do more in rural Africa. Cancel Cancer Africa is a UK registered Charity organisation. Ep 07 - Thank you Volunteers for 2013

01:45
During our activities in the rural communities, the volunteers distribute simple printed materials explaining how to self examine the breast and what changes to look out for. Due to language differences we sometimes publicly demonstrate how this is done, through an interpreter. In each community we work along side the local health centers, this allows us to transfer knowledge and develop continuity with the Nurses and Doctors. While the medical teams are examining the women in the private rooms, they explain to each woman to repeat the examination and note any observation. One of the biggest challenges in rural Africa is the absence of accurate data, so we gather information through questionnaires.
You can't do it all alone.
